Notes
*Title: The PhMA impression is tilted "Barn," not "Barns." The explanation for this variant may be that George Miller inscribed the title instead of Fiene on an impression reserved for and dedicated to him (See immediately below.) Impressions outside the edition: An unnumbered impression (PhMA) is signed "Ernest Fiene 1926" and countersigned "George C. Miller/Printer" (l.l.). This impression was a gift to PhMA from the artist George Biddle (American artist-printmaker 1885-1973). Inscriptions: PhMA impression: "To George C. Miller with compliments" (l.r.); BMFA impression: "To Barry [?] with best wishes Ernest Fiene 1926". Paper: At least three impressions, the ones numbered 15/30 and 22/30 and the PhMA impression (see above), are on japan paper. The BMFA describes its impression as being on "off white, thick, simulated Asian paper." |
