Notes
Setting: The "Washington Arch" is located on the north side of Washington Square Park at the southern terminus of 5th Avenue in Greenwich Village, New York City. The arch, commemorating the inauguration of George Washington, was designed by Stanford White and erected in 1895. Fiene executed two other prints, also in 1928, with a Washington Square setting: Washington Arch and Washington Square No. 1. In April, 1927, Fiene's New York City address was 19 E. 9th Street, just around the corner from the arch. Most likely he was still there in 1928 when the Washington Square lithographs were executed. |
