*Title: No indication of a title that can be ascribed to the artist has yet been observed
**Date: Two of three observed impressions are known to be dated "1940" in pencil.
***Medium: Although Quintanilla's most commonly employed intaglio printmaking technique was drypoint, which was the sole technique he used in Spain, Associated American Artists, the publisher for some of the prints he made in New York, claims he made etchings as well. No final determination about the technique or combination of techniques used in this print has yet been arrived at.
****Edition:
- One observed impression is inscribed "n° 4" l.l.
- Three unnumbered impressions including one bearing the inscription noted below have been observed..
- An unauthenticated auction record notes the edition as "10."
Inscription: One unnumbered impression is inscribed (far left to right beneath the plate mark) as follows: "To Arthur Miller with great admiration y un fuerte abrazzo [and a strong arm] 1950."
- In 1943 Quintanilla began a series of portraits of American writers "as how they see themselves." Immediately below left is a pen and ink study (11 x 14 in.) for the painting of Arthur Miller as Abraham Lincoln.
- Below right is a sketch of Quintanilla by Miller made during the same period. Miller's inscription reads, "To friend Luis Quintanilla -- which proves the adage -- 'Shoemaker stick to your last' -- Arthur Miller"
